Having "received" my own message, I can see how depressing it is.
Here are some clues I picked up at an ALT meeting that I attended last
week:
We are not courageous enough either on an institutional or personal
level.
ACTION - Harangue senior management until they get the message that they
will loose students to competitors unless they act. E-learning has to be
funded from core funding (not project funding)
In an FE college if a college principal says all teachers will use a VLE
they do! I guess this may also be true at Faculty level within a
university and in a school??
ACTION - Harangue Senior Management
Make VLE an important part of a "new" organisation built around shared
information using something like Sharepoint.
ACTION - this is a hard one - very few have the skills and the breadth
of vision to take this one on - probably needs outside consultants ( and
money). Get Senior Management to agree to bring in external consultants.
What do you do to push things along?

Subject: [VLES] Reasons not to use a VLE
How do we counter these views???
1. Teachers don't have the time to take on anything new
2 Teachers don't have PC's and projectors in all classrooms
3 Senior Management have failed to grasp the potential of VLE
4 It introduces new cost to the organisation for no immediate return
5 We can't prove that it can improves retention and achievement
6 Not all students have access to PCs at home or in the college
7 It detracts from our main business - improving face to face teaching
