Dear List,
I am trying to navigate copyright issues for reproducing the map "The
Spenser Country" in Judson's monograph "Spenser in Southern Ireland" (ca.
1933), and wonder who drew it and would it still be copyrighted? I ask
because Principia Press, the Bloomington, IN publisher, is currently
defunct; their current distributor, Akron U Press, had no idea the book even
existed and so disclaimed responsibility; and the book itself (as I recall)
gives no attribution except "Illustrations reproduced from photographs by
the author," but this map is clearly not based on any photograph.
I have ILL'd the book one more time to re-verify the absence of attribution,
but I thought in the meantime I'd ask if any of you (who may even have known
Judson) would know. Did he do it? It's a very pretty map, Tolkien-esque.
The photographs themselves are also worth reproducing sometime.
Best wishes, Thomas
