Additional to the below -
Myself and Darren Hurst (Amber Valley BC) have been looking this over... Literature regarding the accumulation of B(a)P in plant tissue seems to indicate that the concentration in roots has been found to be less than that present in the soil.
This leads us to conclude that the way the Briggs ratio is implemented in CLEA UK is incorrect. My thinking is that the equation is upside down, i.e. should be "soil over plant", not "plant over soil" as currently shown in CLEA UK)
I'm copying this email to the CLEA Development Team for comments (see below for full story) - perhaps one of the staff could respond on this list?
As previously stated, we shouldn't be making regulatory decisions from reports that include assessment criteria derived by CLEA UK. Specifically, any that involve plant uptake pathways should be 'returned to sender' straight away until this issue is resolved.
