Having just found the US EPA's new database of chemical parameters - and
seeing the vast differences in accepted values for the same perameter should
there not be a standardised list by which both consultants and regulatory
officers should review.
It has been noted that all parameters for the risk assessments we are
expected to undertake are within the CLR Tox reports - to be brutally honest
- it isnt. A variety of texts are currently reviewed which include US based
risk assessment tools such as RBCA (or the GSI database), BP Risc etc. A
Mars bar to the first person to find the Enthalpy of vapourisation at
boiling point in the BaP Tox report!!
What would improve our lot would be for the EA to approve a set of values
that they consider to be consistent with UK chemical considerations. These
could be appended to the back of tox reports. This should not be brain
surgery, however how can a regular decide whether the chemical values
adopted within the Merck Index, the CRC rubber book... are the most
appropriate to adopt.
It seems that all other bodies overseas are doing this - why can't the UK.
And if the UK do complete this, it would be nice to have workable units at
appropriate temperatures rather than having the unnecessary exercise of
conversions.
Just a thought and wondering if I'm the only one thinking this!!!!
Would be nice for the EA to provide a full working efficient service, rather
than a part time half hearted service. At the end of the day us consultants
have to put our PI on the assessments we make.
