Artifact http://www.artifact.ac.uk is seeking to recruit to the
following position:
Content Cataloguer - Research
Fixed term: Initially to 31st July 2006
Scale 5/6 £17,970 to £21,640 pro rata (0.5 FTE)

Artifact is seeking a qualified postgraduate or postgraduate research
student in the arts to undertake cataloguing for and promotional work of
its Internet Resource Catalogue. The work involves the selection,
description and cataloguing of quality online resources with direct
relevance to the arts research community.
Artifact www.artifact.ac.uk discovers, evaluates and catalogues online
resources in the arts and creative industries which are of use to
students, teachers and researchers in UK Higher and Further Education.
These resources are then freely accessible via the fully searchable
Artifact Internet Resource Catalogue.
Artifact is part of the national Resource Discovery Network
www.rdn.ac.uk, funded by the JISC (Joint Information Services Committee,
www.jisc.ac.uk and is based at Manchester Metropolitan University
Library, with key partners at the University of the Arts London and
South Cheshire College of Further Education.
It will be essential for you to possess or be undertaking a postgraduate
degree in an arts-related subject that is supported by Artifact (see
major subjects below) together with recent experience of undertaking
research in the arts, an understanding of the specific information needs
of arts' researchers and the use of authoritative Internet resources in
an academic or research environment.
This role will contribute to the quality of the Artifact service and its
usefulness and relevance to the academic/research community.
Artifact currently has 6 top-level subjects as follows:
- Architecture
- Communications, Media and Culture
- Design
- Fashion & Beauty
- Music & Performing Arts
- Visual Arts

The Manchester Metropolitan University is the lead institution for the
Artifact service, on behalf of the Universities in Manchester and
Salford and in partnership with the University of the Arts London and
South Cheshire College.
