A Research Seminar Series in the University of Sussex Music Department

Sessions take place in the Recital Room (Falmer House 120) on Wednesday
afternoons: 2.00 - 4.30pm.
12 October: Dr Nicholas Till (University of Sussex)
Introduction to the series and his AHRC project proposal, then discussion
based on Roland Barthes' Essay "Lesson in Writing", pp. 170-178 in Image,
Music, Text, trans Stephen Heath (London: Fontana, 1977). Copies of project
proposal and Barthes' essay available from Terry Bryan, Arts B-164.
26 October: Trevor Wishart (composer/sonic artist)
Session will include the presentation of compositions concerned with
various electronic treatments of the voice.
9 November: Jenni Roditi (vocalist/composer)
Session will include a live performance of some of her recent work and
discussions concerning the influence of 'non-western' vocal styles and
techniques on her music.
7 December: Andreas Breitscheid (Forum Neues Musiktheater, Stuttgart)
Presentation of NewMediaPocketOpera (NMPO) Max/MSP multi-media resources
and the use of new interactive technologies for opera and music theatre
(tbc).
