Perhaps so, but the hymn has an interest all its own. Eamon Duffy makes
the point that it was originally written not for the funeral liturgy,
but for Advent. If you look at the Mass texts for around Advent, you
will see its imagery illustrated. For example, the Gospel for the
Sunday before Advent is Matthew 24:15-35, all about the world falling
into ruin, including "Et mittet Angelos suos cum tuba, et voce magna .
. ." There's your Tuba Mirum.
