The 2005 Leopardi Lecture will be given by
PAUL HAMILTON
Why Romanticism is still becoming what it is
Lecture Room 6, Arts Building (second floor), University of Birmingham
Wednesday 26th October 2005 at 5 p.m.
This lecture, which traces a line from Leopardi and Byron to Marx and Benjamin, is open to all
Paul Hamilton is Professor of English at Queen Mary, University of London. He has published extensively on Coleridge, Wordsworth and Shelley, and is the author of Historicism (Routledge, second edition, 2003) and Metaromanticism: Aesthetics, Literature, Theory (Chicago University Press, 2003). He is currently finishing a book on Coleridge and German philosophy, and is working towards a comparative study of European romanticism.
The Leopardi Centre at Birmingham is a research hub within the Department of Italian Studies. Its purpose is to promote the study and knowledge of Leopardi and his European context and to act as a UK focus for research into the cultures of 18th and 19th century Italy.
