hello everybody,
Lancaster's elation at finally publishing its SRM was marred by a
hardware failure, we resurrected the node, but have decided that it's
officially `dodgey' and can't be trusted. So we're replacing it. We've
found a nice shiney new machine (newer and higer spec then the old
one) that's nobodies been using, so I'm going to half-inch that and
use it as our new admin node. As we need to arrange access to the
machine room we won't be doing the swap till tuesday afternoon at the
earliest. I was wondering, is it possible to point a pool node at a
different admin node? And if it is possible how? My reasoning being I
could install this new machine with dcache, then simply swap all the
pools over to it (they should be empty), get the bdii to listen to it
and hopefully keep the downtown to less then an hour (if the swapping
procedure is a simple one). If not then I'll shut down the old admin,
then give the new machine its hostname- which might not be the most
efficiant way of doing it. Hope that all made sense...
Cheers,
matt
