Well gang, thanks for all the help.... [not!]. LOL...
The archaeology funding application has to be sent
tomorrow. So at the risk of coming across as pushy
and rude, might I ask anyone with some scholarly
attainment in Old English to comment on 2 small Qs:
1] Whether Bettenhill [the form seems the same right
back to the 1500s] is likely to be from the OE
personal name Betta with a genitive -n?
2] Can this -n type of PN be dated at all, or could
it have been used from the earliest Mercian times
right through to the middle ages?
If anyone can give us a steer it might be v. useful in
getting a handle on the archaeological 'Dark Ages'
chronology in our town, so thanks in advance!!
