(Justice, Ethics and Morality)

Collegiate Crescent Campus, Sheffield Hallam University
The presentation comprises of a talk and discussions. It will explore some
of the issues facing parents and professionals in the field of autism, with
a particular focus on ethical considerations. Included in the discussion
will be how a lack of appropriate support and understanding of individuals
and families can lead to high levels of discrimination, neglect, or abuse.
It will be addressing a wide range of topics including diagnostic issues,
ethical considerations in the field of autism and crime, and MSBP. The main
theme of the talk will be how professionals can inadvertently be unethical
in their approach, and a discussion of the impact this may have on the
family.
Luke Beardon, senior lecturer
Luke has worked for several years in the field of autism and learning
disabilities, working in the voluntary sector, for the National Autistic
society, as Regional Development Officer and then as head of training and
consultancy. He has spoken at a number of national and international
conferences on a variety of autism related topics. Luke is currently
undertaking a doctoral program of research in autism, looking at issues
related to crime.
