DAC 2005 Digital Arts and Culture. Workshop Call for Participation

The Theory and Practice of Experience Design
DAC 2005 Copenhagen 30th December
Mark Blythe, John McCarthy & Peter Wright
There is currently much interest in digital systems design in the idea of
designing not just the interface, or the interaction, but the user
experience. Much of the research and practice in this area is at the
boundaries of arts, design and sciences. In this one-day workshop we will
bring together practitioners and researchers to explore the state of the
art in theory and practice of experience design.
This workshop will bring together the people who are working to define the
emergent field of experience design. The aims of the workshop will be:
· to map state of the art practice in experience design in terms
of methods and techniques
· to chart similarities and differences in theoretical approaches
· to identify future challenges and inform a research agenda
Participants will be welcomed from a range of disciplines including: HCI,
Interaction Design, Experience Design, Digital Arts and Media, Psychology,
Sociology, Cultural Studies, Literary Studies, Art and Design Studies.
Participants may submit a one to two page position paper or expression of
interest. The submissions will be refereed by the organising committee. The
main criteria for selection are that the author has an original and
relevant contribution to make in terms of theory, method or case study. We
are very keen to promote discussion even if it means that only a subset of
participant make a formal presentation. Because of this the format for the
day will be decided once we have reviewed the submissions.
Please send your position paper or expression of interest to:
