Hi Jonathan,
I've just last week purchased a test domain for a new IFCC web site from
company called Nativespace (http://www.nativespace.com/) we are also
planning do some fancy stuff in the collaborative working area and
multimedia content delivery (look out for Radio IFCC in the very near
future!)
Initial impressions are of a very competent company. Site was up and
running within 5 mins of paying the invoice. We got Mambo preinstalled
for free along with various other options.
Its primarily a Linux based system with php as a the scripting language.
But our initial tests indicate we can do everything we did with ASP in
PHP but it looks as though we have a pretty steep learning curve to
learn the new language. However there is bucket loads of php
applications on the net mostly licensed on a GNU license (essentially
free).
Cost wise very cheap. I would strongly recommend them,
Regards

Subject: web hosting and authoring software
Hi chaps
I am planning to set up a new web domain just for UK NEQAS Birmingham so
that we can do some clever stuff!
For the last seven years I have been using MS FrontPage as authoring
software (which requires special software extensions on the server) and
doing everything on the main UK NEQAS domain which is hosted by Virtual
Internet (now called Active24).
I have got a bit disillusioned with VI (the FP extensions regularly get
corrupted and the server needs re-booting and their technical people
always take ages to do this) and MS FP itself is not the friendliest of
programmes.
Do you have any recommendations for a good web host and some nice
software that doesn't require special server-side extensions? I must be
able to put web forms onto pages and have secure areas for participants
only.
cheers
J
