I don't believe that there is any logic to this at all - no one in the West
Midlands Deanery was able to explain this national decision. Adrian - your
explanation would work for August (when all the new F1s fresh from medical
school do indeed arrive a day early for their induction) but not for
February since then they will be working the Tuesday before. The F1s don't
rotate in February any more anyway: the 4 month posts start in August and
rotate in December and April.
Best wishes.

No, it's to do with the PRHOs (F1s) who change on the first TUESDAY of the
month. That usually means that SHOs start on the first Wednesday of the
month, except when the 1st day of the month happens to be a Wednesday; then
the first Tuesday is the 7th day of the month. In such cases, like next
February, then the SHOs start on the day after, i.e. the 8th. So, to
summarise, the SHOs change on the day-after-the-first-Tuesday of the month.
Hope that makes sense. At least it's got nothing to do with the full moon, I
promise!

Our personnel dept came up with the rule that;
It is always the 1st Wed in the month, unless it's the first of the month
when it becomes the 2nd Wednesday of the month!!!!!
LOL!!!!!!
I don't Know who came up with this, or whether this rule holds, but it
appears to work for Feb 2006!

Usually the start date for UK SHOs is the first Wednesday in February or
August. In February 2006 it appears to be the 2nd Wednesday on the 8th.
Just in case you were not aware of this (I wasn't).
