POSITION: Tenure Track Position in International Studies
at the Assistant Professor level

ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
Potential for effective participation in faculty

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The International
Studies Program seeks a faculty member interested in
helping build the program and expand its course offerings.
Disciplinary background is less important than substantive
interests, a commitment to teaching, an active scholarly
agenda focused on global issues, and an interest in
program building. We have needs in a variety of areas,
including globalization, immigration, human rights,
international women’s movements, international
organizations, political and economic development, race
and ethnicity, nationalism, and language policy. The
precise mix of courses to be taught will depend on the
person hired. We are especially interested in someone who
can expand an existing internship program for
international studies students. Successful teaching
experience, a record of successful research and
publication, and the potential for effective participation
in faculty governance are all desirable. While political
scientists are encouraged to apply, please note that this
is not a position in International Relations per se.
DUTIES:
Teach courses in international studies at the lower- and
upper-division levels, including Cases in International
Social Conflict, Problems in International Social
Conflict, International Development, International Women’s
Movements, and the Senior Seminar in International
Studies. Develop and teach a new lower-division
Introduction to International Studies for non-majors and a
new upper-division Introduction to International Studies
for majors. Develop and administer an internship program
in international studies. Engage in research leading to
conference participation and publication. Perform
university and community service. Advise students.
SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with background and
experience. Probable range from $55,000 to $60,000
depending on qualifications.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION: Letter of application, resume
including a current email address, three recent letters of
recommendation, official transcript from institution
awarding highest degree, writing sample, and teaching
evaluations, if available.
(Employment is contingent upon proof of the legal right to
work in the United States, and this must be provided by
the time of employment at the University. An appointment
is not final until proof is provided.)
POSITION OPEN UNTIL FILLED (or recruitment cancelled):
Review of applications to begin on December 1, 2005. The
Program encourages applications from women and members of
minority groups. Applications, required documentation,
and/or requests for information should be addressed to:
