I just saw the --prefix in the stalled configure output pointing to the
64-bit build.

I already had that and did that. Trying bootstrap again fails because
/usr/local/bin/perl isn't available. I've not changed perl on my
system. It's in /usr/bin/perl. Looking on europa (64-bit), perl is in
/usr/bin/perl not /usr/local/bin/perl.

The --prefix still reports that it points to the 64-bit build, and it
hangs as before. This may be because the bootstrap failed.
Thanks Peter.
