Okay. The problem seems to be in HDS_PTYPE. Since it was a dimension I
made it unsigned rather than signed but that has caused big problems.
Brian: any comment?
I don't know why but I'll revert that change in CVS and then try to see if
it's an obvious problem with the fortran interface somewhere (which has a
signed/unsisgned issue).
