The xml schema and documentation are more complicated than the XML document itself!
I have solved the xml problem by asking the NMR for the data as a shape file. Until my IT people have the time and the resources (from us) to sort out the data this is the only way I will be able to use the information.

Hi Sarah,
The MIDAS XML schemata are here:
http://heritage-standards.org/midas/schema/1.0/
and documented here:
http://heritage-standards.org/midas/docs/
You don't need a schema to open an XML document, only transform it. An
XSLT will also help you render the contents in a visually appealling
HTML format. These should be readable even untransformed in a relatively
modern browser.
