Freie Universität Berlin welcomes student
applications to its Spring 2006 FU-BEST (Berlin
European Studies) semester. Full details are
available at www.fu-berlin.de/fubest.
The general application deadline is October 15,
2005. Applicants with a GPA of at least 3.5 are
encouraged to compete for a FU-BEST scholarship;
the deadline in this case is October 1. All
application information and materials can be
downloaded from the FU-BEST website.
FU-BEST offers mandatory intensive German
language training at all levels, combined with
courses taught in English by German/European
faculty on topics ranging from German history and
politics to international relations in Europe,
art history, Central European literature, German
cinema, and the sociological analysis of
Germany’s dual totalitarian experience.
For the Spring 2006 semester and beyond, a new
course has been added, entitled “Problems and
Issues in German Philosophy: Kant to Sloterdijk.”
Participants opt for homestays or
single-occupancy studio apartments. A weeklong
excursion to Munich and Vienna, as well as a rich
variety of local field-trips and attendance at
cultural events, form an integral part of the
Spring 2006 program.
