Thank you for sharing your concerns with me.
The original poster stated that they did not like the quantity of emails
from a specific named person. They could have stated that the email of
certain people on this and other lists were not to their interest and
asked the question regarding blocking email without naming an individual.
To state that a specific persons email is overwhelming, takes from the
freedom of all to post what they feel they need to post to a list that is
pertient to the field of discussion of that list, for fear of offending
people who join lists but do not want to receive any or much email. Most
email account inboxes provide the name of the sender and the emails not
wanted by this person because of source could simply be deleted unread.
I delete known spam and things like conference announcements and other
mail forms that do not help with my information needs as a routine part of
handling email. By bringing Colin's or any other individual person's name
into this post, that turned this post into a flame and not just a simple
request for information. Other motives beyond this individual post,
notwithstanding, this was a very unkind post and an attack on the posting
patterns of Colin. Some on this list have noted that Colin actually does
not post that frequently. The citing of a specific individual in this
request for technical email processing insight is the basis for my
comments that this was a post that reflected bad netiquette. I hope that
this will clarify my motivation for the comments that I made and thanks
for sharing your thoughts with me regarding this matter.
Sincerely,
David Dillard
