Dear All:
Please forward--We are all aware that the Hurricane Katrina disaster is due as much to racism and social inequality as it is due to the storm. Below is a link to a clearinghouse of grassroots organizations in the area affected by Katrina, most of which are run by and for people of color. These groups have been working as hard to meet the needs of survivors as the Red Cross etc., yet they have received no media coverage and are in desperate need. This list is updated continuously, so it's worth checking it periodically.

Where to donate to organizations who are:
- Organizing at the grassroots level in New Orleans, Biloxi, Houston
and other affected areas
- Providing immediate disaster relief to poor people and people of
color
- Directed by, or accountable to, poor people and people of color
- Fostering the democratic inclusion of poor people and people of
color in the rebuilding process
(For notes on why it's important to support local, grassroots relief
efforts, read here <http://www.sparkplugfoundation.org/notesfromneworleans.html>).
