I just wanted to bring to your attention the IEE and MOD HFI DTC
Symposium on PEOPLE AND SYSTEMS: WHO ARE WE DESIGNING FOR? This event
is also being co-sponsored by the British HCI Group. This two day
Symposium will take place on the 16th and 17th November 2005 at The
Grange City Hotel, London EC3.
It is a fact that systems are designed for people; yet the human element
is often neglected during systems development. This symposium is aimed
primarily, but not exclusively at practicing systems engineers,
engineering managers, project managers and system procurement
specialists to help to answer the question: Who are we designing for?
Human Factors (or Ergonomics) is a systems oriented discipline concerned
with the fundamental understanding of interactions among people and
other system elements and the application of appropriate methods, theory
and date to improve human well-being and overall system performance.
Systems Engineers and Human Factors specialists need to work tougher
from the earliest stages of projects and cooperate to produce the best
possible solutions and avoid some of the horrendous failures we have
seen in the pas there people and systems have been incompatible. Single
keynotes and parallel sessions will be held throughout the symposium.
