Emergent Technologies and New Media Arts Coordinator
Background:
SPACE is an arts and education charity based in Hackney, East London.
Founded by the Op artist Brigit Riley in 1968, SPACE innovates and
supports the provision of contemporary arts activity in London and
provides gallery, public art and training specialisms as well as studio
provision across London. The Media Arts Dept. was formed in 2003, and
has a specific brief to work with artists and communities using
electronic media.
SPACE Media Arts is housed at SPACE Triangle, SPACE’s arts and education
complex in Central Hackney. The department focuses on moving image and
networked technologies and has developed an impressive track record of
supporting innovative work, research and development.
SPACE Media Arts provides affordable, innovative and socially responsive
facilities and resources. All of the networked media projects we work on
incorporate artists, technologists and the communities in which the
projects are sited. We particularly work to foster links with and
between excluded or under-resourced groups.

Responsibilities:
To work as part of the Media Arts team at SPACE, with specific
responsibility for emergent and networked media coordination.
To be responsible for overall production of upcoming emergent and
networked media projects.
To work with the Media Arts Manager and External Advisor on the
development of emergent and networked media projects, including the
generation of partnership funds.
Contribute to the development of an emergent and networked media
evaluation and strategy document.
To present SPACE Media emergent and networked media activity internally
and externally.
To represent SPACE Media Arts (emergent and networked media activity) at
public and sector specific events.
To work with the Media Arts Manager to develop new partners within the
sector and to raise the profile of SPACE Media Arts nationally.
Any other responsibilities commensurate with this post
Applicant requirements:
Excellent organisational and communications skills.
Interest in and understanding of current issues in media and public arts.
Some knowledge of or willingness to learn about technical issues.
Knowledge and understanding of arts administration.
Experience of financial administration and time management.
Ability to work under pressure
Some experience of fund raising and development of new partnerships
Experience of working with diverse groups
Experience of presentation or willingness to develop this skill

Pay /time:
Initial - 6 month freelance contract (with intention to extend contract
subject to fund raising)
Salary £26,000/annum pro rata.
3 days/week - flexible
