try bookends http://www.sonnysoftware.com/ it is what i use. I
have around 780 bibliographic citations, and extensive notes on many
of them all stored in bookends. it works with word, mellel, and many
other word processors, and formats things appropriately in many
different styles. my personal experience is that bookends is simple,
easy to use, and does what I need in terms of keeping a bibliography
and notes, making them searchable and well ordered. it is also
highly customizable, with both extra fields and user definable fields.
