Hi Liz and list
When I was at Greenwich Borough Museum (as was) in 2002 we produced a resource pack for teachers on Black History in Greenwich, with five cases studies of people and places associated with the borough, from the famous (Ignatius Sancho) to the unknown (an ice-cream seller photographed on Greenwich beach). This was part of a London Museums Archives and Libraries (LMAL) pilot that also involved three other boroughs: Brent and Bexley and anotber I've forgotten. Westminster Archives produced a very good resource pack that acted as a model for this project; see
http://www.almlondon.org.uk/sector/index.cfm?ArticleID=82&NavigationID=150&display=1 for more details of the Westminster project.
More recently there has been the Connections Exhibition mounted by the Jewish Council for Racial Equality; this is unusual in looking at links between Black, Jewish and Asian communities in the UK. We hosted this exhibition when I was at the Ragged School Museum; it is currently touring and will come to Birmingham Central Library next year. See http://www.connections-exhibition.org/
I think there have been quite a few small Black History exhibitions and displays over recent years, so I'm sure others will be able to contribute examples too.

Hi all,
In a couple of years I'm going to be doing an exhibition at Birmingham
Museum on a theme related to 'Black presence in Birmingham/West Midlands'.
The specific theme is largely going to be decided through community
consultation but I'm interested in finding out what other Black and
Minority Ethnic exhibitions (and/or school resources) have been produced
across the country. I'd be very grateful if you could let me know of any
BME exhibitions/school resources you have produced at your museum, have
visited at another museum or other venue, or have even just heard of (big
or small!). A brief summary of what they were about would also be very
useful.
Thank you for any help you can give - it is much appreciated.
Best wishes
Liz
