My current interest in collaboration goes slightly beyond the actual =
title chosen for August's topic, but since no one else has taken up the =
topic yet I don't think I'm stepping on anyone's toes by bringing up =
what follows.
As I mentioned in an earlier message, I will be coordinating two =
collaboration modules over the coming academic year with several =
lecturers/tutors and a fairly large number of second and third year =
students at the University of Hull's Scarborough School of Arts. The =
students come from three programmes: Theatre & Performance Studies, =
Creative Music Technologies, and Digital Arts. The third year students =
will meet with lecturers and tutors every other week for the entire =
academic year. The second years will meet weekly during the second =
semester only.
The will be two theatre/performance lecturers/tutors and two music =
technology lecturers/tutors working on with both groups. The modules are =
called Performance & Creative Technologies Collaboration 1 and 2. =
There's a slightly different approach between what we're doing with the =
students in the different levels; I can go into that later if our =
discussion on the list goes in that direction.
In essence, the modules introduce students to working on a live =
performance and/or screen-based project with a small group of students =
from a subject area other than their own. Students will be grouped into =
Guilds, which will come together to form Companies.
You can get a sense of what we're planning in terms of the Guilds if I =
outline the possible minimum Guild combinations in each Company:
1 Composer
1 Creative Writer
1 Musician
1 Actor/Dancer
1 Music/Audio Technologist or Video/DVD Producer
1 Stage Crafts Manager
1 Arts Manager
The Companies will be engaged in one of the following activities:
? Live Music with Video Projection
? Music Video Production
? Music Performance DVD
? Theatrical Performance DVD
? Dance Video Production
? Live Body/Visual Performance with Video Projection
? Radio Game Show
? Radio Drama
Anyway, this is just a brief overview of what we're up to in our =
Collaboration modules.
Would anyone on the list like to share their thoughts on any of this?
Has anyone on the list done any work on similar courses in the past? Or =
perhaps you're planning to do something like this in the future?
I'm also interested in reading what people on the list have to say about =
collaboration in classroom environments, particularly with creative =
workshops.
Cheers...
...t.s.
