Thank you Tyler, that's extremely helpful. I'm trying to get a feel for
what sort of data people store and how they use specific fields. As with
all databases it would be wonderful if we could put in everything, but
at the end of the day it would cost time and money.
Is there any news on when MIDAS schema for objects will finally be
finished?

It may be more than you want Sarah, but the documentation
for the (still in draft) MIDAS schema for objects (small
finds, artefacts, etc.) is available here:
http://heritage-standards.org/midas/docs/object/
The information units shown here will not necessarily
correspond to what HERs are _currently_ recording, of
course, but does reflect what _can_ be recorded within an
HER context (unlike, say, a museum, for which the SPECTRUM
standard is more appropriate).
An example document, which may be more lucid, is available here:
http://heritage-standards.org/midas/examples/object_example.xml
