Next term I'm teaching both a Chaucer course and a course in translation
studies. For both these courses, I've been searching for a list (preferably
chronological and going back to the beginnings, i.e. the 14th century) of
translations of Chaucer's work INTO other languages, both European and other.
There are plenty of websites that deal with Chaucer + translation, but they all
seem to deal with Chaucer's OWN translations /adaptations. The assumption in
Chaucer studies seems to be that this "cultural capital" is totally the
property of the English-speaking countries. Can anyone suggest possible sources
(print or online?) Interestingly, for Shakespeare it's much easier to find
suitable information -- he's evidently perceived to a greater extent as "world
property" rather than merely British or Anglophone.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
