Luka, just spotted your post!
Why go to Melbourne.......come to Bunbury, sunny relaxed spot on the WA south-west coast!!
I have been here for 7 months, and bought a house and signed a 5 year contract within 2 weeks of arrival from Adelaide. Went to Adelaide after completing SpR training in Preston in November 2003.
I'll send you some more information on Bunbury if you want. If you are interested we could offer you a registrar position. If however you want a big teaching hospital, city centre trauma unit, rather than general ED, with Paeds, lots of sick medical stuff, AND some major trauma that we have to deal with, resuscitate, then baby sit for several hours until the retrieval service can evacuate them to Perth......then I would recommend Royal Adelaide Hospital where I worked for a year and would be happy to recommend you to my old colleagues. They have a pretty busy trauma service, run by ED but a separate roster and you would get good expereince and training. great consultant staffing (11 when I left and since have appointed another 5). Adelaide is also a lovely city.
Either way drop us a line!

Subject: ED experience in Melbourne
I wonder if anybody could give me some advice as to where I could get some
good experience in Melbourne?
I am planning to go next august for 1 year and hope to do some EM/ITU and
possibly do a bit of PICU or transfer stuff.
By then I would have done 1year A&E, 6/12 Paeds, 6/12 Ortho, 6/12 Medicine
(Cardio&Chest) 6/12 ITU and 1 year anaesthetics - all as SHO.
I 'd like to get more trauma/ sick kids/ crit care experience.
Thanks!
Luka
P.S. I am also MFAEM and ALS/ATLS/APLS/NLS +ve
