At Glasgow I just can't get this error to happen. All our hostnames are FQDNs.

Could it depend upon the value of hostname in shift.conf? The only way that I
can get an error is by:
Setting hostname to FQDN.
Setting shift.conf to short name.
Then I get "se2-gla:/tmp: Permission denied (error 13 on se2-gla)".
But that's not quite the same error...
