Dear Alison,
We may be able to place you with the One to One midwives at Queen
Charlottes for your elective placement. Do you want to give me a ring so
we can discuss?
Regards,
Lesley

I am a third year Student Midwife who desperately wishes to experience
caseload midwifery before I qualify in March 2006. I have an elective
placement 'slot' from 30th January 2006 to 8th March 2006 where I can
arrange to gain experience in alternative models of midwifery care.
I had an elective placement arranged with a fantastic 'gold standard'
caseload practice but unfortunately this has fallen through due to staff
shortage. Can anyone help me by recommending a good placement for
caseload experience?
I am currently mentored in an integrated team model of care, but feel
that I am not gaining experience in true normal childbirth and holistic
women-centred care, which I believe is the future of midwifery in my
locality. I have not attended a home birth or seen a physiological third
stage and I wonder how I can give the best midwifery care possible when
I am being educated in a medicalised model. Furthermore, I would like
the experience to give me the knowledge and confidence to strive for
change in my locality.
This elective placement is my greatest opportunity to experience the
type of midwifery care I would like to provide once qualified. Can
anyone help?
