I should say that I am not against blogs or blogging. i have three
blogs and they each have applications in their specific arena. I
have my personal blog which i use for research, a bit of politics,
and a bit of humor, it is currently on pause while i finish my
dissertation. I have an educause blog that i use for policy, and
educational technology broadly conceived, and the institute for
social assessment of information technology page is actually a blog
where i post major reports appropriate to the center. I have my
friends in the blogosphere and i know many blogs become the center
for interesting community engagements. My argument is that there is
a difference in that type of engagement that is socially constructed
by the community of bloggers that is different from the way we
construct email list communities. Those differences can only be
overcome to the extent that the medium's situatedness in the social
arena allows. However, such things do not change overnight, so I am
wary that what occurs on this list would translate to a blog. I also
do not really think that having a blog in conjunction to the list
would be a real benefit. However. I do think that if someone did
find time to translate a few of the more interesting discussion on
these pages to a web arena, making them accessible to those
searching, it would draw people to the list more than the current
interface. alternatively we can just use the mode of organic growth
frequently found in the listworld.
