As nobody seemed to have heard of this at the GridPP meeting even though I
(at least) have found it very useful, I thought I'd publicise it a bit:
The LCG UI distribution includes a simple GUI tool for job monitoring and
tracking, which is much neater than the command line for small numbers of
jobs and better for demos, too.
The command to start it is
edg-wl-ui-jobmonitor.(c)sh
The screenshot at
http://people.brunel.ac.uk/~eesrjjn/grid/javag1.gif
shows the basic job table; new jobIDs can be added at the top, status of
current jobs is shown in the middle, and the buttons there are equivalent
to command-line tools ("Details" = edg-job-status, etc.) The output from
these is parsed and broken up, so that selecting one of the aborted jobs
and pushing "Log Info" puts up something like
http://people.brunel.ac.uk/~eesrjjn/grid/javag2.gif
which IMO is an easier way to find out what went wrong than grepping
screenfulls of text.
There are still many rough edges on this - I don't think it's been updated
since EDG - but I've found it useful and it's a lot less frightening for
new users than solely using the command-line.
I still do submission using the command-line as I often script small
batches of jobs; there is also a GUI job submission tool with a "smart"
JDL editor, but this went badly wrong last time I tried it.
I think the GUI tools get configured by YAIM, but if they still don't work
you'll probably need to do the following:
Edit
$EDG_WL_LOCATION/etc/edg_wl_ui_cmd_var.conf
$EDG_WL_LOCATION/etc/edg_wl_ui_gui_var.conf
to include a default VO.
Edit edg-wl-ui-gui-env.sh and .csh in
/opt/edg/var/etc/profile.d
and /opt/edg/etc/profile.d
to have correct JAVA_INSTALL_PATH
