1. MODULE LEADER FOR LEVEL 2, SOCIETY AND SPACE: AN INTRODUCTION TO SOCIAL
GEOGRAPHY
CONTEXT: The Human Geography Subject Group has restructured the Human
Geography pathway in the BA Social Sciences degree. As part of this
restructuring, a new level 2 module (Society and Space) is to be developed
from an existing Level 3 module (Urban Social Analysis). The Module
Descriptor/syllabus have been devised. However, Dr. Elizabeth Mooney – who
was to be Module Leader – has an internal secondment for 05/06 and we now
need to employ someone to (i) develop the module, in conjunction with Dr.
John McKendrick and Dr. Elizabeth Mooney; and (ii) deliver the module to
level 2 BA Social Sciences degree students.
WHEN: (i) Preparation - August-September 2005; (ii) Teaching - One day per
week, Semester A (September 2005 - January 2006)
WHERE: (i) Preparation – some meetings at Glasgow Caledonian University,
but otherwise anywhere (ii) Teaching - Glasgow Caledonian University
TEACHING LOAD: 2 x 1 hour lecture per week + 1 x 1 hour workshop for 6
weeks + 1 local field visit
RENUMERATION: To be finalised for preparation, but teaching is paid at
University rate of 29 pounds/hour.
WHO: Would be suitable for someone writing up their Ph.D., who also has
some teaching experience in HE.
CONTACT: Dr. John McKendrick ([log in to unmask] / 0141-331-8221) by
Friday 12th August
ADDITIONAL NOTE: May be possible to dovetail with Class Tutor work
outlined below.
2. CLASS TUTOR FOR LEVEL 1, AN INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN GEOGRAPHY
CONTEXT: The Human Geography Subject Group employs Class Tutors to deliver
a pre-prepared class programme of workshop activities for their
introductory Human Geography module.
WHEN: Semester A (September 2005 - January 2006)
WHERE: Glasgow Caledonian University
TEACHING LOAD: Work available for equivalent of 5 x 1 hour classes.
HOWEVER, it would be preferable if workload was delivered on a weekly
basis (taking all 7 classes for a given week), rather than a class basis
(taking the same class for each week of the programme). Some marking is
involved.
RENUMERATION: University rate of 29 pounds/hour.
WHO: Would be suitable for a Ph.D. student, with little/no teaching
experience in HE.
CONTACT: Dr. John McKendrick ([log in to unmask] / 0141-331-8221) by
