Two monographs on the history of coal mining technology have been made
available on the web as pdf files. These were written by Ian Unwin,
formerly with British Coal Research and Development. He explains that -
>They cover part of the history of coal mining technology that
seems to be largely ignored yet played a vital part in preventing the deaths
of many thousands of underground workers. The monographs are entitled:
>
>Mine monitoring for safety and health
>
>The measurement of Air Flow in British Coal Mines: A historical review.
>
There are available at www.angelfire.com/mech/ians_coal_page/
But, be warned, they are 6 to 7 Mb each - might take some time to download.
