Ian,
When I last looked at the site in November last year it was already badly
degraded. This is remote site to protect and vunerable due to its proximity
to a good public road. However, if the headframe is conserved along with
the associated structures (important if it is to viewed in context) and it
is seen to be so, as opposed to being in its current derelict state, that
in itself will be a deterent to would be metal thieves.
My view is conserve and apply for listing or scheduling, as appropriate,
after all it is one of the last surviving features of the orefield.
