Student Bursary from UKeiG
UKeiG is the UK eInformation Group, a Special Interest Group of CILIP:
Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, with members
who are principally concerned with the creation, supply and use of
electronic resources, and in training for their efficient use. You may
wish to gain more information about UKeiG from our Web site:
UKeiG is again offering an award of £2,500 to a student on a course that
has a significant coverage of information resources (UKeiG is likely to
favour students on courses that cover electronic sources). The award can
go to either a postgraduate or an undergraduate and all the rules
governing submission are contained in this letter. We propose to make the
award by means of one payment at the start of each academic term. Each
department may put forward the name of one student who they believe to be
deserving of the award, along with a brief recommendation detailing why
UKeiG should choose their candidate (including some short information on
the course). UKeiG will assume that if you accept or retain the student on
a course that they are academically sound so your case should be made on
the basis of their lack of funds. Our wish is to help students who lack
adequate funding. UKeiG will NOT accept applications directly from
students. While most of our members originate in schools and departments
of library and/or information science such as yours, there are an
increasing number of courses offered by other departments that have
significant information handling or information management content and
thus the new awards are also on offer to other departments in Universities
throughout UK. UKeiG reserves the right to withhold the award if no
suitable candidate is submitted.
May I ask you to circulate the details of the UKeiG Bursary to your course
admissions officer(s). UKeiG wish to make the first of three payments as
near to the beginning of the academic year as possible and so would ask
your staff to submit their recommendations to us by October 12th in order
that payment can be made by the end of October. UKeiG make the following
stipulations:
* The award is open to students on both first-degree and post-graduate
qualification courses (whether taught or research) which include
significant coverage of information handling/management.
* The award is not open to distance learners unless they are un-waged.
* The award is equally available to a student beginning any year of a
course.
* Each department may only submit one student.
* The Bursary is not available to a student who has received it
previously.
* The award is only open to self-funding students who are not in receipt
of government funding or any other award, bursary or scholarship. Students
may have a student loan.
Submissions should be made to:
