We are running RHEL4 (x86_64) in the pool nodes (and most of our other file servers)
and so far i haven't seen any problems with the 2.6 kernel. IO performance isn't
great with the default vm settings but with a couple of changes (vm.dirty_ratio etc)
performance is quite good and you get all the nice stuff that is missing from 2.4
(selinux, >2TB volumes, nfs4 (with krb5), etc).
We had far more problems with the 2.4 kernels and RHEL3 actually.....
