Under the direction of Ambassador Don McKay of New Zealand, its new chairperson, the Ad Hoc Committee will convene its 6th Session on a Comprehensive and Integral International Convention on Protection and Promotion of the Rights and Dignity of Persons with Disabilities from August 1 - 12, 2005 at UN Headquarters in New York. DPI is preparing to participate in this session, during which Articles 16 to 24 will be reviewed by the Committee, covering such topics as children with disabilities, education, accessibility and personal mobility. We are planning to keep our subscribers apprised of the daily happenings with the help of Janet Lord and Kathy Guernsey, who will be sending daily updates to DPI Headquarters for publication on our website http:www.dpi.org . Our goal is to have each day's summary up on our website by noon the following day. If you want to keep up with what's going on at the Ad Hoc
Committee meetings in New York, watch you email inbox every day during the session for news of the discussions. For more information on the upcoming session and the side events that are being planned, please visit: http://www.un.org/esa/socdev/enable/rights/ahc6.htm (available in English only). You will also find a UN press release about the 6th session among the new postings on DPI's website.
