Geography at Newcastle is a large, highly regarded and vibrant research-orientated institution. In the last RAE Geography obtained a grade 5A and ranked 7th/8th on research income and postgraduate metrics in a highly competitive discipline. We are seeking to appoint a temporary lecturer in human geography (one year appointment) from September 2005. Alongside other research and teaching commitments, candidates will be expected to contribute to a second level course (Cities and Social Change), to administer a tutorial based second level course ('Advanced Study Skills') and contribute to and be co-course leader for a first level course that introduces new geography students to different visions of their discipline (Geographical Imaginations).
Applications are welcome from any area of Human Geography, but ideally applicants will be social or urban geographers forming international reputations in one or more of the following areas Society, Space and Practice, New Economic Geographies, Territory, Culture and Power:
Successful candidates will be encouraged to work in/between clusters where appropriate and to complement the clusters' commitment to political relevance and different forms of policy research, and/or have an active interest in developing qualitative or quantitative methodologies.
