Lecturer / Senior Lecturer post in Tourism (one year
temporary from 1st
September 2005)
Sheffield Hallam University has one of the largest
tourism programmes in higher education in the UK and
through its Centre for Tourism and Cultural Change
(cf. www.tourism-culture.com), an excellent record in
international research, consultancy, publications and
conferences. We are seeking to appoint a suitably
qualified and experienced person to work with us in
further enhancing our reputation for quality and
innovation in our teaching
programmes.
The Tourism subject group has recently seen an
increase in the quantity of its work in terms of
undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programmes as well
as in research, professional development and
consultancy activities. It is responsible for the
delivery of Masters Programmes in Tourism as well as
contributing to other postgraduate programmes. At
undergraduate level we are responsible for delivering
a range of programmes in Tourism.
The subject group and its programmes have strong links
to a number of Professional Institutes including the
Tourism Management Institute, International Festivals
and Events Association and the Association for Tourism
and Leisure Education.
In addition the group makes a significant contribution
to other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
within the Faculty and provides consultancy and
research services to a range of organisations. Members
of the group are members of several national and
international committees and serve on the editorial
board of a number of key journals. The subject group
has a strong track record of journal and conference
publications and members are authors of major
international textbooks in Tourism.
The Faculty is seeking to appoint a candidate who
would be able to contribute to the delivery of
undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Tourism.
Preference will be given to those candidates who show
they are able to contribute to the teaching of Tourism
and related subjects. However it is essential that all
candidates have the flexibility to teach across a
range of programmes. It is also desirable that
candidates demonstrate a high level of
professionalism, are good team players and can
demonstrate a commitment to higher education in the
Tourism area. Candidates should be flexible in being
able to teach over a range of subject areas, within
the Tourism field.

The selection process will comprise informal and
formal interviews.
Candidates will be asked to prepare a 10- minute
presentation relating to their approach to teaching
and learning within their specialist subject field.
