John,
Have already visited Mike 18 months or so ago, and seen presentation in the West midlands. There were aims to adopt this in the BBC SHA. I'm not quite sure what the position is with this at the moment. It is a very impressive system and integration with requesting reporting modules has interesting possibilities. I believe they have interfaces with the EMIS GP systems and also that some of middleware suppliers have already had some discussions along the requesting module integration. Those may be points worth pursuing in your meeting with Mike Stein.
Regards
Bill

The 9th is clearly the best option, will aim for that, if you do not mind sharing the appointment

ALso I received this last week. (Many thanks for your help Muir on this) Given the interest, perhaps the IT group can co-ordinate a meeting at the Royal Free on the same day with Mike Stein Cheers John
Dear Dr O'Connor,
Re: Map of Medicine
Sir Muir Gray has passed on your details to Medic-to-Medic and suggested that Dr Mike Stein, our Medical Director, contact you regarding our product the Map of Medicine.
Mike would like to organise a meeting with you to brief you on the Map of Medicine. This can be done in person at the Royal Free Hospital, locally or via a teleconference with a web-based presentation if the internet is accessible.
Have you got time free in the first week in August or September for this?
Would you like to suggest some dates and your preferred method of contact?
Kind regards,
Danica Goad

John
Some updates for you on MoM. It has come out of one of its periodic black holes and things seem to be moving again!
Here is a memo from Sir Muir which trickled down to me last week giving some idea of the direction of this project.
Accenture have approached our Trust with a view to being the NE cluster pilot site for localisation of the MoM for diabetes. Obviously we would like to base this on the Nice Guidelines and make it multidisciplinary. Links to other systems may take a little longer We may need some links to the national work to avoid reinventing the wheel with regard to Nice guidelines.
We hope to do a readability study to scope the project in the next month or two. Most of the work will be done by our clinical effectiveness unit in collaboration with one or two GP practices.
I also have a morning with the CEO of Medic-to- Medic about future developments on 9th September. If you or any one else in the group had any ideas about this / future developments / links to laboratory systems please let me know and I will pass them on. I will also let them know you are also interested in piloting the system.
mike

Thanks Mike.
Yes we would like to collaborate. I sent an email to mtmsolutions this morning (copied below), so it will be interesting to see how they respond to that.
Cheers
John
I enjoyed an excellent presentation regarding the map of medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons on Monday. I was particularly impressed with the ability to customise some of the local information. It was mentioned that the Southern cluster of the NHS already has access to the map and I would dearly like to link to it from our pathology handbook which is accessible to all the GP's in Devon via NHS net. Could you advise how best we might proceed with this.
Many Thanks
Dr John O'Connor, Consultant Biochemist.

Hi John
We have been attempting to pilot MoM in Harrogate the problems at the moment is that it is not yet locally configurable '/ linkable to other systems. (Accenture, who are heading up the NE Cluster) have said they will try to address the issues but the project keeps disappearing into black holes. ie everyone clams up and the feed back dries up. The project was withdrawn once in December last year and reinstated in April
- no timescale yet on configurability.at least in the NE yet - If you would like to collaborate and can get configurability in the south let me know.
mike.

Look forward to getting that communication. On another point, I have been at the Royal College of Surgeons Informaics Symposium for the last couple of days. We had a very interesting presentation regarding the map of medicine which apparently the Southern Cluster has a license agreement to use.
Are
you aware of anyone wishing to pilot its use in a routine setting?. We would be interested to locally customising it, and linking it in to our pathology handbook which already links to lab tests online.
Cheers
Jojn
