Dear all, does anyone know the source for the fourth motto in Sebald's
"The Emigrants": "Im Abenddämmer kommen sie / und suchen nach dem
Leben"? I assume that it is a quotation, like the other mottos, but I
have not been able to find a source. It is not in the "Digitale
Bibliothek" or the "Digitale Grimm". Susanne Schedel, in her study of
intertextuality in Sebald's works, talks about all four mottos being
quotations but doesn't give a source for this one.
Thanks!
