1.1 AGM 2005: nominations received
Our twelfth Annual General Meeting will take place at University of
Manchester on Wednesday 7 September, 1700-1730. All members are
warmly invited to attend. Three nominations have been received for
the two vacancies for trustees on the Central Executive Committee,
which means an election will be held at the AGM. The candidates are
Jonathan Darby, Tom Franklin and Dawn Leeder. One nomination was
received for the Vice-Chair: Linda Creanor. Linda Creanor is
therefore elected unopposed. Along with reports on all ALT activities
and committees, the trustees will be proposing amendments to the
constitution, so please make every effort to attend this important
meeting.
1.2 Final call for ALT-C 2006 expressions of interest
Deadline: FRIDAY 29 JULY
ALT-C 2006 will be held in Edinburgh, 5-7 September. The co-chairs,
Prof Terry Mayes (Glasow Caledonian University, UK)and Prof Ron
Oliver (Edith Cowan University, Australia), are seeking Programme
Committee (PC) members to take an active part in planning the
programme, reviewing papers and (where possible) chairing sessions at
the conference. The co-chairs wish to encourage applications from all
areas of education and from outside the UK.
PC members must be able to commit to:
* reviewing at least 15 abstracts/ short proposals for sessions,
and/or
* refereeing at least 2 research papers
- during March and April 2006.

Include your full address and brief details of your:
a) reviewing/refereeing experience

2.2 E-learning - making it work; from the preserve of enthusiasts to
organisation-wide implementation

ALT and the Learning and Skills Development Agency (LSDA) will be
holding a Conference in London for FE and Adult and Community
Learning practitioners and leaders. The conference will showcase
successful e-learning implementations, in a way which will help
participants to:
* learn from organisations which are presenting at the event;
* apply the lessons in their own organisation.

2.3 Edublogs: the educational use of weblogs, weblogging tools and
really simple syndication (RSS)

Presenters: Josie Fraser, Wyggeston & Queen Elizabeth I College;
Steven Warburton, King's College London.
This timely workshop addresses the current theory and practice
surrounding the use of weblogs and RSS (Really Simple Syndication)
within a variety of educational settings. Weblogs, which most
popularly appear in the form of online journals, have heralded a new
era in personal publishing but what do these new tools offer in terms
of enhancing the learning and teaching process? What are the
advantages to combining them with technologies such as RSS news
feeds?

3. Invitations to tender
3.1 JISC ITT: Knowledge Management Roadmap
... to develop a knowledge management roadmap for the JISC's Support
of Research and Integrated Information Environment sub-committees.
Deadline for proposals: 1:00 pm on 12 August 2005. Funding of up to
£49,000 (including VAT and expenses) is available for this study.

3.2 JISC ITT: Publisher Metadata and Interoperability Projects II
... to further develop interoperability between publishers and
aggregators and the JISC Information Environment (IE). The deadline
for proposals is 1300hrs GMT on Tuesday 6th September 2005. Proposals
are invited from publishers (including aggregators) and from
partnerships between publishers and Further and Higher Education
institutions. In particular it is expected that suitable FE and HE
partners will include JISC production services and development
projects. It is anticipated that a number of proposals with budgets
of £10,000 - £15,000 will be funded.

8.1 LeTTOL
The next run of the award winning LeTTOL course will be in September
2005, with a start date of 29 September. If you are a teacher,
lecturer, trainer, materials developer, or an academic or technical
manager then the course will teach you to:
* teach learners on-line;
* support them using email and conferencing;
* manage on-line learning provision;
* use the Internet as a powerful resource;
* understand the pedagogy of online course design.
The entire LeTTOL course takes place online. You study for around 6-7
hours each week, and the course duration is 23 weeks including
'breather' weeks. The course leads to a qualification from the Open
College Network (6 credits at Level 3).
