Hi all
Toby is correct, our membership does extend to the Midlands but the reasons
our venues were chosen are this.
When we initially called upon ideas, themes, venues, sponsorship etc from
the membership, we received responses which included Salford and
Huddersfield Universities (our first two meetings) and NHS PASA in Chester.
As Keith Gregory at NHS PASA had gone through the trial and tribulations of
implementing an EDRMS system AND was willing to parade this "warts and all"
we naturally bit his hand off and arranged the meeting accordingly. Given
that many of our members are new to Record Management and have possibly
never even seen an EDRMS system in action, it followed on our main "Building
Blocks of Record Management" quite nicely.
At the Chester meeting we will be calling upon members to "volunteer" their
premises for our 2006 programme and should any of our members in the
Carlisle to Newcastle areas be willing to host a meeting I am sure all the
membership would be most grateful. I think that as we cover such a large
geographic region, then it is inferred that some meetings will involve more
travel than others. If these meetings do stray too far south then there is
always the Scottish sub group as an optional extra! I notice one or two from
Cumbria are already attending.
We do rely on people's generosity and I know Keith Gregory has already
devoted a lot of time and effort into organising the meeting so if you are
unable to attend due to other commitments or geography, then all elements of
the meetings will be posted to our area on the RMS website so that you do
not miss out.
As our September meeting is scheduled for Preston, hopefully we can meet
with our far northern membership and arrange some meetings there for 2006!
I hope this explains all, and looking forward to meeting the other 30
attendees in Chester,
Lawrence

I sympathise with these concerns, am I mistaken but does the RMS-North group
not include counties from the Midlands? Whilst the meetings may appear to be
coming south there is nothing to stop the next one being in York, Lancaster,
Newcastle or Carlisle. Some of these meetings may be difficult to attend for
those members of the society travelling from Derbyshire or Birmingham, so I
do believe that a wide range of venues is necessary to satisfy the large
majority of the group. So while this one is in Chester lets have the next
one further north, and then one in the Midlands. Unfair?

I have to agree with Susan, and you could add Carlisle to that list.

Hi
Just to say that the venues for the RMS North seem to be moving
southwards.
While Chester is a beautiful location I will not be able to attend due
to
the distance involved.
According to the AA routeplanner, this would take me 3hours 15 m by car
or
4hours by train and it is only 3hours by train to London.
Could I suggest that the next location be on a main line rail network as
making the journey across country takes too long for a one day meeting.
It
would be nice to meet up with like minded staff but please could we have
a
more central location like York or Leeds next time.
