Dear all,
A new month is upon us already and a slightly different one for the NRICH
website (www.nrich.maths.org). This month sees a new look to the way in
which problems on NRICH link together. We have created an interactive
pegboard environment which has been adapted to form the basis for many of
the problems and the game
(<http://nrich.maths.org/public/viewer.php?obj_id=2871>), all fitting in
with the mathematical theme of Angles. However, we hope that you will
explore the full environment
(<http://nrich.maths.org/public/viewer.php?obj_id=2883>) for yourselves.
Perhaps you'll be able to think up some of your own problems?
Can you find all the different triangles on the nine peg board in Nine-Pin
Triangles (<http://nrich.maths.org/public/viewer.php?obj_id=2852>)?
Challenge yourself further to find links between the different types of
triangles that you can make on different sized boards in Triangles all
Around (<http://nrich.maths.org/public/viewer.php?obj_id=2850>).
Subtended Angles (<http://nrich.maths.org/public/viewer.php?obj_id=2845>)
invites you to investigate triangles which have two vertices the same with
the third vertex being either at the centre or on the circumference of the
circular pegboard. How is this angle affected? Pegboard Quads
(<http://nrich.maths.org/public/viewer.php?obj_id=2865>) changes the focus
from triangles to quadrilaterals - can you calculate the angles of each
quadrilateral and look for other relationships?
For something a little less pegboard oriented, why not get stuck into some
practical exploration in Octa-flower
(<http://nrich.maths.org/public/viewer.php?obj_id=2689>), or take our Right
Angle Challenge (<http://nrich.maths.org/public/viewer.php?obj_id=2812>)?
Whatever you try first, it is sure to intrigue and challenge you - just
don't forget to send in your solutions ...
With best wishes from the NRICH Team
