Hi All,
I have a good ref c1820's to robbing from pillar and stall works in Lancs
(Lunesdale) in my Coal Mining in Lunesdale pp183-193. There was a long
drawn out correspondence between solicitors and there is a wealth of detail
about the practice and the mines.
Cheers
Phil Hudson

In lancashire if you were robbing, thats precicly what you were doing,
bringing out pillars. When we had driven a bord as far as it was going we
would first rob all around the top then bring the pillar out as we
retreated.
Pillars could also be robbed and an area gobbed before it could be measured
up for royalties ect.
