RE: “If I change the title of one of the hundreds of Web pages I maintain,
I am most certainly not changing 'a name by which the resource is formally
known'."
As I see it, the crux of this debate hinges around the phrase "formally
known.” Is a Web page formally known by its title, URL, or IP address? Are
title and dc:identifier easily confused in this context?
Other "objects" to consider: “Quotations from Chairman Mao Zedong” or “The
Little Red Book”; “The Beatles” or “The White Album”; “Led Zeppelin IV” or
“Zoso”? Who decides these things?
In my opinion, dc:title should be independent from dc:identifier, which in
a perfect world would be a unique constant.
