Graduate Teaching Assistantship and University Scholarship

Department of Geography
The University of Hull is a leading centre for research in Geography (RAE
Grade 5). As part of a series of new appointments (including a new chair of
physical geography and three RC-UK Academic Fellowships) we also wish to
appoint a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Human Geography. The post is
available from 12th September.
Candidates are expected to complete a doctoral research project in three
years. They will also assist with undergraduate classes and demonstrating
in the Geography Department (to a maximum of 6 hours per week per
semester). They will also be affiliated to our interdisciplinary Hull
Environment Research Institute (HERI), where they may undertake occasional
research administration duties.
The successful candidate should have a first degree (minimum 2.1) in
Geography or a cognate discipline. Non-native English speakers must meet
the University's English language requirements.
Candidates should attach a proposed research project (of no more than two
sides of A4) to their formal application. They should be aware that the
Department is very unlikely to fund overseas research or new equipment for
this research. Candidates should also complete the Postgraduate Application

is the GTA stipend/salary allowance. UK / EU 'Home' fees will be waived as
part of the award.

UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP (Fees-only, at EU/UK rate) in Geography
Thanks to bequests from alumni, the University can also offer a three year,
fees-only scholarship in the Geography Department. This will cover tuition
fees only with no stipend for living costs (although casual teaching and
demonstrating will be available).
Under the conditions of the bequests, candidates should be University of
Hull alumni or local people. Further clarification on these criteria is
