BCS-HCI 2005: Call for Participation extension
Workshop: Not More Problems! New Challenges for Research Methods in
Universal Access
Workshop date: Monday 5 September 2005, Napier University, Edinburgh
Submission deadline for a short 2 page position paper: extended to 1st
July 2005
How are we addressing the challenges of designing and evaluating systems
where for example, the user has a vision or hearing impairment, or is
using a mobile device with limited output, or is likely to be looking
the wrong way in a noisy environment?
Universal access shares a common objective of universal design and
accessibility in a wide range of domains and to achieve this goal we
need a significant interdisciplinary input from (among others): computer
scientists, cognitive psychologists, social scientists and AI
specialists.Join us at this one-day workshop at BCS HCI 2005 in
Edinburgh, to consider the challenges of context in universal access and
the need for innovations in research methods.
We raise three questions:
* How do we define the notion of context within universal access?
* How can we best integrate contextual factors into design and
evaluation?
* What new methods are emerging to accommodate contextual issues of
universal access?
This workshop is supported by the Interaction Design Centre (IDC) and
the Collaborative International Research Centre for Universal Access
(CIRCUA) which are research centres within Middlesex University, and the
electronic journal e-UARM.
